The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), popularly known as "Pusa Institute", was originally established in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar) to initiate agricultural research in India. The Institute was shifted to the present site in New Delhi following a major earthquake at Pusa and formally inaugurated on November 7, 1936 by the then Viceroy of India, Marquis of Linlithgo. It was conferred the status of a Deemed University in 1958.
